Bachelor of Music Performance

Major Code: 68

Entrance Audition – All students wishing to pursue the BM – Performance degree must audition to gain admittance into the program. This audition can take place in any semester but must be attempted by the end of the fourth semester of study.

Major – Minor: 72-77 Semester Hours

Core Courses:

32 hours

Emphasis in Performance

40-45 hours

  • Performance core:
    • Applied Music: Twelve lower level and Sixteen upper level hours of Major Instrument or Voice (MUS 2510, MUS 4510)
    • Two hours of solo literature
    • Two hours of pedagogy
    • Two hours of Directed Reading in Music History (MUS 4960)
    • Two hours of Directed Reading in Music (MUS 4960)
      • NOTE: Lyric Diction (MUS 2472) may be substituted for voice performance majors.
    • Eight semesters of Recital Attendance (MUS 1400)
    • Full Junior and Senior recitals with concurrent enrollment in Recital Performance (MUS 4220)
  • Emphasis in Voice Performance:
  • Emphasis in Keyboard Performance:
    • Performance core plus:
      • Two semesters each of MUS 2301 Piano Accompanying and MUS 4401 Piano Chamber Ensemble (four hours)
      • Two semesters of major ensemble (two hours)
      • Four hours of secondary instrument or voice

Note: The Major – Minor program is just one component of a baccalaureate degree.
