Handicapped Parking Policy

In compliance with Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA)

Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SE), as required by law, complies with The Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504 which states, “No otherwise qualified person with a disability in the United States…shall, solely on the basis of a disability, be denied access to, or the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity provided by any institution receiving federal financial assistance.” Individuals with a legal disability may be entitled to an accommodation consisting of a temporary handicapped parking permit. Other individuals who do not have a legal disability may also benefit from a temporary handicapped parking permit. In order to provide handicapped accessible parking, SE will issue temporary handicapped parking permits based upon documentation of need prepared by a health care professional. All documentation will be kept confidential.

For permanent disabilities, a handicapped parking decal should be requested through the individual’s state of residence. While waiting for the permanent state decal or for short term, temporary situations, visitors, staff, faculty, or students should request a 30 day maximum temporary handicapped parking decal from the Campus Police Department. Medical documentation will be required at the time of the request. At the end of the 30 days, additional 30-day permits will be provided based upon sufficient documentation from an appropriate health care professional.

A grievance can be filed through the regular University grievance procedures on file with the SE Compliance Officer (Administration Building, Room 311 or call 580-745-3090), the Office of Student Affairs (Administration Building, Room 205 or call 580-745-2368), or the Coordinator of Disability Services (GDJ Student Union, Suite 328 or call 580-745-2392).
