Handicapped Parking Policy
Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU) complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504 which states, “No otherwise qualified person with a disability in the United States…shall, solely on the basis of a disability, be denied access to, or the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity provided by any institution receiving federal financial assistance.” In order to provide handicapped accessible parking, SOSU will issue temporary handicapped parking permits based upon documentation of need. All documentation will be kept confidential.
For permanent disabilities, a handicapped parking decal should be requested through the student’s state of residence. While waiting for the permanent state decal or for short term, temporary situations, visitors, staff, faculty, or students should request a 30 day maximum temporary handicapped parking decal from the Campus Police Department. Medical documentation will be required at the time of the request. Persons making this request also have the option of providing documentation to the Coordinator of Student Disability Services who will then provide approval to the Campus Police Department. At the end of the 30 days, additional 30–day permits will be provided based upon sufficient documentation from an appropriate professional.
A grievance can be filed through the regular University grievance procedures on file with the SOSU Compliance Officer (Administration Building, Room 309), the Office for Student Affairs (Administration Building, Room 205), or the Coordinator of Student Disability Services (Student Union, Suite 204).
