ID Conversion Announcement
Southeastern Oklahoma State University will assign new student ID numbers effective March 15, 2006.
With increased national attention on identity theft, the University is making every effort to protect student privacy. To limit the use of social security numbers, Southeastern is converting to a unique student identification number. Currently, the social security number is the student ID number for most students. The new student identification number will be a random 9 digit number.
Students enrolled at the Ardmore Higher Education Center, SOSU – McCurtain County, SOSU’s Continuing education program, and any other off-site location will also receive a new student ID number. A student enrolled in two or more locations will receive the same ID number for use at all sites.
SOSU faculty and staff will be assigned an employee identification number; however, payroll and Human Resources systems will continue to use the SSN internally for reporting purposes. Employees who are assigned a student ID will also use that number as the employee ID.
The University will continue to require social security numbers for faculty, staff, and students, though the SSN will no longer be the default student ID number. The University requires the SSN for financial aid processing, IRS reporting, payroll processing, and reporting pertinent information to state and federal agencies.
All former students with records in the online student database will receive a new student ID number. Students may continue to access CampusConnect records using the social security number, but it will no longer be required.
