The Southeastern Oklahoma State University Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) will host the Oklahoma AAUP State Conference on Saturday, April 11, 2015. The theme of the conference is “The Centennial Year: A Historical Look at AAUP Principles and the Future of College and University Teaching,” and will feature a keynote address by Irene Mulvey, Ph.D., a Professor of Mathematics at Fairfield University in Connecticut, and longtime member of AAUP active at the local, state, and national levels.

A round table discussion on the topic: “The Future of College and University Teaching within the context of AAUP Principles” will feature SE President Sean Burrage, SE AAUP Chapter President Meg Cotter-Lynch, and invited panelists representing the SE Faculty Senate, and the SE Academic Council.

The conference will offer three thematic presentation sessions: Remember (AAUP history provides lessons, insights, and inspiration), Discern (Ideas for rhetorical action, strategies for political engagement, and proposals for educational policy and practice to achieve a greater realization of AAUP principles), and Imagine (Sharing an imaginative vision for universities).

Conference participants will come from colleges and universities throughout the state of Oklahoma. All SE faculty and instructors are invited to attend the conference and to participate in one of the presentation sessions. The sessions will feature 10 to 15 minute time-slots for presenters and will provide an opportunity to share insights, research and experiences on university teaching and AAUP principles and history.

Thanks to generous funding from Southeastern’s professional development fund, registration will be free, including all sessions, continental breakfast, and lunch. While AAUP membership is not required to attend the conference, we invite all faculty and instructors to join AAUP and to get involved in the exciting and timely work of our Chapter. Information on joining AAUP can be found on the SE Chapter website:
