Rules and Guidelines of Professional Conduct

Practicum and Internship Rules and Guidelines for Professional ConductAll practicum and internship students, sites, site supervisors, and university supervisors must agree to follow all requirements of the corresponding course syllabi and Counseling Practicum or Internship Supervision Contracts. Furthermore, all students and supervisors are required to behave legally, ethically, and professionally in accordance with applicable sections of the most current versions of the following: (a) the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics; (b) the Code of Ethics of the American Mental Health Counselors Association; (c) the National Board for Certified Counselor (NBCC) Code of Ethics; (d) the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) Training Standards; (e) the Oklahoma Licensed Professional Counselor Act and Regulations (and/or other pertinent licensure acts in Oklahoma or any other state); (f) applicable state rules and guidelines (e.g., Oklahoma Health Care Authority, Medicaid, Medicare, SoonerCare, HealthChoice reimbursement regulations, etc.); (g) counseling-related federal guidelines (e.g., Veteran Administration [VA] service delivery requirements, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPPA] guidelines, Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations [42-CFR] guidelines for confidentiality, etc.); (h) agency accrediting requirements (e.g., the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities [CARF], Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations [JCAHO], etc.) pertaining to counseling activities provided at the internship site; (i) the agency’s internal policies and procedures; (j) policy and procedures of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, and the Department of Behavioral Sciences; (k) the current version of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Student Handbook and Policies and Procedures Manual; and (l) the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Student Code of Conduct.
