CMHC Service Delivery Requirements

Activities Completed for Counseling Practicum and Internship Experiences: For counseling practicum and internship experiences, students are required to complete a minimum number of direct and indirect counseling site hours. Though several guidelines apply with regard to these hours, some of the more important stipulations include the following:

  • Students are required to complete a minimum of one (1) hour of individual, face-to-face supervision each week with the site supervisor of record. Proxy supervision is prohibited per requirements of the Practicum and Internship Supervision Contracts.  More specifically, the site supervisor of record agrees to be the sole party responsible for providing weekly, face-to-face site supervision in conjunction with the activities completed by the counseling practicum or internship candidate indicated on each contract. “Proxy” internship supervisors are not allowed to “sign off” on hours for which they did not provide direct, face-to-face, weekly supervision. Only the site supervisor identified the Counseling Practicum or Internship Contract may provide the required weekly supervision.
  • Students are required to complete a minimum number of hours of direct individual counseling and direct group counseling as specified in the Counseling Practicum and Internship Contracts.
  • Specific limitations on the number of hours that may be counted as direct and/or indirect client contact hours apply to certain categories such as co-counseling; staff trainings, meetings, conferences, or workshops; counseling screening, intake, assessment, testing, and diagnostic activities; and counseling research activities (as outlined in the Counseling Practicum and Internship Contracts).
