Additional Certification Options

Additional National Counselor Certification Options: In addition to the NCC credential, a variety of other well respected national voluntary specialty credentials may be pursued by graduates of the CMHC Master’s Degree Program. Please note, however, that additional coursework, supervised experience, and examinations will likely be required. Examples of such voluntary credentials held by SOSU Counselor Education faculty members (aside from the NCC) include the following:

  • Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) offered through the Center for Credentialing and Education, Inc.
  • Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) offered through the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc.
  • Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) offered through the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc.
  • Registered Play Therapist (RPT) offered through the Association for Play Therapy
  • Fellow in Thanatology: Death and Dying (FT) offered through the Association for Death Education and Counseling
