Director of Therapeutic Riding Program and Equestrian Center - Continuing Education

The Director of Therapeutic Riding Program (TRP) and the Equestrian Center is responsible for the implementation of SE’s therapeutic horse riding program including program marketing and fund raising. The Director will provide opportunities and collaborate with academic disciplines at SE to provide learning experiences for undergraduates and graduate students in areas such as special education, occupational/physical therapy. The Director is also responsible for oversight and management of the SE Equestrian Center. This includes overseeing maintenance of grounds, buildings, and facility scheduling. The Director of the TRP reports to the Director of Continuing Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for THERAPEUTIC RIDING PROGRAM:

  • Plans lessons, supervises and instructs daily classes for therapeutic riders
  • Implements the TRP at the Equestrian Center, including initiating and organizing fundraising activities.
  • Presents Program mission to community and educational entities to secure program funding, volunteer recruitment and client interest
  • Recruits, trains, supervises and schedules volunteers to insure continuity in program services
  • Schedules riders with program horses to insure maximum benefit for participants
  • Manages TRP horses, including health maintenance, feeding, housing, tack and equipment use and exercise requirements to insure best practices in equine care.
  • Oversees TRP horse selection and utilizes desensitizing techniques for equines in preparation for use in TRP classes
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress, lesson plans and objectives and volunteer activities.
  • Ensures safety standards are maintained for students, volunteers, and TRP student workers
  • Procures office and TRP supplies
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and volunteer information
  • Collaborates with Rodeo Coach in scheduling facilities, livestock management and shared resources.
  • Coordinates community enrichment courses with the Office of Continuing Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for EQUESTRIAN CENTER:

  • Manages SE equestrian facilities, including, but not limited to barns, arenas, pastures, and horse runs
  • Manages equestrian facility scheduling, including, but not limited to the SE Rodeo Program, TRP classes, and riding classes
  • Oversees facility and ground maintenance of equestrian center
  • Ensures safety standards are maintained for equestrian center facilities
  • Supervises student workers

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field. Prior experience in horsemanship, horse management, and equine activities. Must be proficient in public relations and enjoy working with individuals with special needs and disabilities. Must pass background checks prior to hiring.
