The new members of the Senate were introduced: David Christy, Daniel Benco, Andy Tiger and Jane Elder. Senators that were elected for another term were Diane Dixon, Wayne Jones, Chris Moretti, Buddy Pierce and Muhammad Betz.
After several nominations and refusals, Diane Dixon reluctantly volunteered to be recorder.
Gerrie Johnson was nominated as archivist for 2005–2006 term. The motion passed unanimously.
Dan Benco was nominated as treasurer. The motion passed unanimously.
Wayne Jones was nominated as parliamentarian. The motion passed unanimously.
Brett Elliott showed the Senate a first rough draft of Vision 2010(PDF)which was a result of the summer Strategic Retreat. He indicated that Senate’s request for additional faculty helped to make some faculty issues emphasized (like the goal to have 75% of courses taught by tenure track or tenured faculty). He indicated that this draft of Vision 2010 has to be approved by the Planning Resource Council and it may have some changes in the final version.
Brett Elliott discussed with the Senate the issues that will be discussed at the Seventh Annual Forum on Shared Governance. The Forum will be Tuesday September 28th from 3–5 P.M.
The Senate then filled out a form to indicate committee preferencesfor internal Senate committees. There was a handout describing the committees. The charges for the committees will be determined later by the Executive Committee.
