Mission Statement

The mission of the Southeastern Oklahoma GEAR UP  Partnership is to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Southeastern Oklahoma Enterprise GEAR UP Partnership is to increase opportunities for southeastern Oklahoma by expanding the dreams and skills of its people.  We will work together to improve academic instruction and student performance.  We will assure that students are aware of college as a viable option and that they are prepared for college success.

In Bryan, Choctaw, and McCurtain Counties:

 

  • 36% of the people over the age of 20 did not finish high school
  • 33% have only a high school diploma
  • 10% have a college degree
  • 70% have no college credit
  • Average poverty rate is 27%; the state rate is 17%
  • 71% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch; the state rate is 49%
  • Compared with the median US income, the county median household is:
    • Bryan County: 64.4%
    • Choctaw County: 49.9%
    • McCurtain County: 65.3%

 

Partnership Goals

  • Identify student skill weaknesses

  • Help students improve their skills

  • Increase student, parent, and teacher expectations

  • Inform students of educational and career possibilities

  • Increase college attendance in Southeastern Oklahoma

  • Increase the college SUCCESS rate in Southeastern Oklahoma
