    What is GEAR UP?

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education.

The Southeastern Oklahoma Enterprise GEAR UP Partnership is a federally funded five-year GEAR UP program awarded to Southeastern Oklahoma State University on May 17, 2001.  The Partnership serves a cohort group of 1,952 students in 14 school districts throughout Southeastern Oklahoma.  This specific cohort group of students will continue to be served by the GEAR UP Partnership beginning in 2001 and continuing through their junior and senior years of high school.

The specific goals of the Partnership include increasing student skills in math, science and language arts, therefore increasing the number of students who attempt and are successful in the pursuit of a postsecondary education.

Please visit with your site coordinator for more information.   GEAR UP  offers college awareness activities, college tuition options through OHLAP, as well as cultural awareness activities.  GEAR UP motivates and encourages each of our students to be successful!

What is Oklahoma's Promise - OHLAP?

OHLAP, Oklahoma Learning Higher Access Program, is a scholarship component of the GEAR UP Program.  The Oklahoma Legislature has set up OHLAP for eighth, ninth and tenth grade students that will help pay for their college tuition if their family's income is $50,000 or less.*

The program requires students to pass college prep high school courses.  In addition, students will also have to stay away from trouble such as gangs, drugs and alcohol.

To find out more about Oklahoma's Promise - OHLAP, check out GEAR UP's Oklahoma's Promise - OHLAP page, contact your child's school or the GEAR UP office at 1-800-435-1327 x3122, or visit the Oklahoma's Promise - OHLAP website.
