                Authoritative general encyclopedia, which utilizes a regular program of revision and updating.  Particularly useful for the subject outlines and quick fact outlines for the states.

 

 

New Book of Knowledge; The Children’s Encyclopedia.  Grolier.  20 volumes, color illustrations and maps.

 

                An encyclopedia intended to serve the curricular and interest needs of intermediate grades.  Information arranged alphabetically in unit letter volumes retaining the how-to-do-it and story-features from former sets.  Articles are somewhat longer and under fewer headings than in other comparable sets.

                A comprehensive general encyclopedia.  Aids to use include the outlines at the end of some longer articles, see and see also references, word-by-word alphabetic arrangement, and lists of related articles at end of some major articles.  Ranges in readability from fourth grade to adult.  Volume 22 is a comprehensive subject index to the set.

                A compendium of facts on such topics as population, economics, sports events, politics, religion education, the United States, and other countries.  It locates important institutions and organizations and gives many scientific facts.  The chronology of the year’s events provides summary histories of the previous year.  It includes everything from the best selling book of the preceding year to the cost of a fishing license.  The index is in the front of the volume.

                This is a magazine designed for teachers, librarians, parents. The idea of the magazine is to connect children with books. The Mailbox.  The Education Center.

 

                This is an idea magazine for teachers. It has lessons, activities, cut-outs, posters to remove from the magazine. Mailbox actually comes in different versions, separated by grade level. There is a version of this magazine for preschool, called The Mailbox Preschool. Another version for K-3 grades is called The Mailbox Primary. A third version is called The Mailbox Intermediate, for grades 4-6. There is a version of this magazine called The Mailbox Bookbag, which has book reviews and ideas for activities centered around a particular book. Some librarians use this magazine as a selection tool.
