The Library at Southeastern Oklahoma State University contains many resources pertaining to classical literature. The best way to start doing research is to use the reference sources listed below or to use the Catalog.

How Our Books are Arranged


We use the Dewey Decimal System to Arrange our books in the library. The Dewey system arranges every subject under a number system, where each number in a 1,000 number classification scheme corresponds to a specific subject. Here are the ten main classes of the Dewey Decimal System:

This is a set of volumes that contains critical writings on world authors from ancient times, including Egypt, Greece, and Rome, to the end of the fourteenth century. For each author given, the compilers of this set have scoured the critical literature, and pulled this critical literature together in one volume for easy reference. Some of the critical literature focuses on only one of an author's works, in other volumes there may be criticism on many of an author's works.

This is an encyclopedia of information about the literatures of ancient Greece and Rome, or works which touched upon what is known as the classical world. There are entries on the history of ancient Greece and Rome, and also "the most important myths, science, geography, religion and thought, as well as many features of ancient life and society."

This is a "guide to the essential aspects of Homeric criticism and scholarship."

Contains about three thousand names and other terms found in mythology around the world.

Contains about fourteen hundred entries, mostly names of characters in the myths, of Greco-Roman mythology.

This is a detailed history of the ancient world.

This gives descriptions of important locations, people, and events in the ancient world. For each article it gives the locale, category, a summary of the event, person, or place, and its significance. Also each article contains a bibliography of further works.
