Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows you to obtain needed materials
NOT
available at the Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library. The conditions under
which ILL operates conform to those set by the National Interlibrary Loan
Code, 1980 (adopted by the American Library Association), the University
Interlibrary Loan Policy, Oklahoma Interlibrary Loan Code, copyright laws,
and rules of individual lending libraries (all of these codes are included
in the Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library Policy Manual).
Eligibility
All faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students with a valid University
ID may use interlibrary loan.
Cost
There is no charge for processing the request from the university library.
However, some lending libraries charge for books and also for photocopies.
The cost of the book or photocopy must be paid by the requester. Due to
photocopy agreements, most photocopies come free of charge; but sometimes,
they can cost an average of $12.50 for each bibliographic citation, depending
on the number of pages and lending library charges.

Procedures for Placing Requests
Requests are accepted on the Interlibrary Borrowing request forms found at the Circulation Desk and also
the online forms above. More detailed procedures can be found on the How to Request an Item on InterLibrary Loan page. We are unable to honor
phone requests.
Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Forms
There are specific forms for books and photocopies of periodical articles
in the library at the circulation desk. Use one form per request.
You can also fill out the request electronically with the two electronic forms above.
Request forms should be filled out accurately and completely with a
specific source noted whenever possible (where you found the reference
for the requested item, for example: Psych. Abstracts, 1980, p. 2378).
Inclusion of this and any other specific information will speed the processing
of your request.
Patrons must sign each request for a photocopy, indicating compliance
with Title 17 of the U.S. Copyright Law. Unsigned requests will be returned
to the patron for a signature before being processed.
FOR BOOK/DISSERTATION/MICROFORM REQUESTS:
-
Title and author or editor of item
-
Date and place of publication
-
Publisher
-
Source of reference (for example: Psych. Abstracts, 1980, p. 2378)
-
Date after which item is not needed
FOR PHOTOCOPY REQUESTS:
-
Title and author of article
-
Complete title of source of article (i.e. journal or conference proceeding
title)
-
Volume, issue number, date, and page numbers
-
Source of reference (for example: Psych. Abstracts, 1980, p. 2378.)
-
Date after which the copy is not needed
Patrons should check the online catalog
and the Periodical Holding List thoroughly before
submitting requests. Materials currently circulating can be recalled for
the patron. Contact the circulation desk for more information concerning
recalls.
Time
ILL requests are normally processed within 24 to 48 hours of receipt. Patrons
should pace their requests, asking for no more than can be normally used
in the average loan period of approximately three weeks.
The time needed to obtain a request will vary depending upon the accuracy
and completeness of the request, the difficulty in locating the requested
item, and the amount of workflow in the interlibrary loan department. Normally,
two to three weeks is needed to search, request, receive and process each
transaction.
Notification
Patrons are notified by telephone or mail when their loans arrive. Patrons
should include a campus or local home phone number, a campus address, and/or
an electronic mail account, if available, on each request. Inclusion of
this information will eliminate unnecessary delay in receiving requests.
Receipt
Materials may be picked up at the circulation desk. You must present a
valid SE ID to pick up your requests. Any items not picked up by the
due date will be returned.
Loan Period
The loan period is determined by the lending library; the normal loan being
approximately three weeks in length. Renewal requests must be made at least
five days before the due date so that the ILL staff may notify the lending
library and receive their response before the item is overdue. Most lending
libraries will grant an extension period of at least two weeks.
Restrictions
Lending libraries reserve the right to set special conditions such as "NO
RENEWAL," "NO PHOTOCOPYING," or "IN LIBRARY USE ONLY." They may also recall
the material if needed by one of their patrons. These requests must
be honored if we are to maintain a good working relationship with other
libraries.
Returning Materials
All materials borrowed must be returned to the circulation
desk. Failure to return materials promptly jeopardizes the ability of the
Library to borrow from these libraries in the future. In the event that
borrowed materials are lost, the patron will be held responsible for replacement
costs and any processing fees. Most institutions charge a fee for overdue
interlibrary loans. Any such charges incurred are the responsibility of
the patron. Patrons with overdue ILL materials may not continue to use
Interlibrary Loan until the materials are returned.
