The U.S. Bureau of the Census is involved in obtaining information on the U.S. population, including poverty information.  It contains reports such as: Poverty in the United States, (annual) Low Income Uninsured Children, Survey of Income and Program Participation, How the Census Bureau Measures Poverty, Poverty Thresholds by Size of Family and Number of Children, Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates, such as estimates for states, counties, and school districts
