How do I get a student worker job at the Library? |
![]() |
The most important thing to know is that you must be approved by the Financial Aid Office to get a job. Your Financial Aid award letter should tell you whether you were awarded a campus job. If you are unsure about your approval status, see the Financial Aid Office. The library can only hire students who have been issued an official work permit.
If you know you are approved for student work, you may apply at the library Circulation Desk by asking for a student worker application or getting the application form online. Once this is completely filled out, turn it in to the person at the desk. It is very important to get your application in as early as possible!
How many hours do I have to work? During the summer sessions, students may work 15-20 hours a week which may include some evenings from 6:00 - 10:00 PM, or some Sundays from 3:00 - 10:00 PM. During the fall and spring semesters, students may work 12-20 hours a week, including one evening shift from 6:00 - 11:00 PM Monday through Thursday. You will also be required to work some hours on the weekend which may include either Saturday or Sunday hours. |

What kind of work will I be doing at the library?
Depending on which department you are assigned to, your duties may include shelving books and periodicals, serving patrons at the Circulation Desk, filing and clerical jobs, assisting in the processing of new library materials, and various other duties as assigned.
How can I work when I've got classes all day? Sometimes it is difficult to create a work schedule around all your classes, activities, etc., but we will always work with you to set up a schedule that best suits your needs as a student. The library must have student coverage at specific hours, so on rare occasions a student's class schedule may be incompatible with a library job. For this reason, it is advised that all students apply for jobs at different areas on campus. If we can't use you, someone else probably can! |
