Jason Meadows To Perform At SOSU Arts Gala

Press Release Date: 01-25-2006

Country music sensation Jason Meadows will perform at the 2006 Southeastern Oklahoma State University Arts Gala, scheduled for March 4 at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at SOSU.

Meadows, who grew up in Calera, Oklahoma, was the first runner-up in the 2005 “Nashville Star” TV series on the USA Network. He says he discovered a passion for singing when he was six years old and continued his musical training throughout his youth.

“I sang at school, county fairs, rodeos, talent shows, state competitions and later on in nightclubs, dance halls, and honkytonks,” Meadows said. “I spent years with a traveling band performing throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri every weekend. The experience fueled my desire to see the world and share real country music with as many people as possible.”

Meadows has said that he was inspired by the writing of Merle Haggard, the entertainer in George Strait, and the rock and roll attitude of his idol, Hank Williams, Jr.

The SOSU Arts Gala presents an opportunity to hear outstanding artists while providing scholarship help for deserving students.

This is the 10th year of the program, which brings top talent to the SOSU campus. Durant’s own Gail Farrell performed here in 2004. The series started in 1997 with the Rhythm and Brass Ensemble of Dallas, Texas. That was followed by the Platters, Gene McFall in the “Witty World of Will Rogers” and Les Gilliam, the Oklahoma Balladeer.

Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians with Al Pierson appeared in 2000; The Four Freshmen in 2001; The River City Ramblers were here in 2002 and The Five Americans starred here in 2003, followed last year by Aurora Consort. Kay Chinn is serving as chair of the 2006 Arts Gala.

Tickets for the dinner/concert at the Visual and Performing Arts Center are priced at $100 each with proceeds going to the scholarship fund. Sponsors may purchase a table for eight at a cost of $1,500.

Dinner begins at 7 p.m., followed by the concert at 8 p.m.
