SOSU announces Welcome Week activities

Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Welcome Week 2007 is filled with student activities from Saturday, Aug. 18 through Thursday, Aug. 23.

Freshman Convocation is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Montgomery Auditorium and will be followed by the Convocation cookout on the front lawn at 5:30. The Convocation is the official welcoming ceremony for all freshmen and their families.

A Chocolate Extravaganza (7 p.m.) and Coffee House Concert(7:30) are slated that night for Union Plaza. The concert features musician Richey Lam, a indie pop/rock artist.

Sunday’s activities begin with Campus Praise Services at 10 a.m., followed by Sunday Brunch at 11 a.m. in the University Cafe. A Residence Hall Orientation and Playfair will be held at 1 p.m. in the Student Union Gym with Sundaes on Sunday at 7:30 in the Union Plaza.

Classes begin Monday and the Storm Watch football scrimmage is set for 6:30 p.m. at Paul Laird Field. The Storm Street Block Party is slated for 7:30 p.m. at North Fourth and University in front of Shearer Hall.

Tuesday will feature hypnotist Dr. Minter at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Gates will open for the Blake Shelton Concert at Paul Laird Field at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. Student tickets are priced at $15 and may be purchased in the Student Union until 5 p.m. on the day of the concert.

Welcome Week activities wrap up at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with Wii Got Game! (Game Night) in the Student Union, featuring Guitar Hero; Dance, Dance Revolution; Wii Sports; and Board Games. These events are free to all SOSU students with a current ID.

Classes begin on Monday, Aug. 20.
