DURANT, Okla. -- Southeastern Oklahoma State University's sixth annual Behavioral Sciences Scholarship Workshop will be held Friday, Sept. 19 in the ballroom of the old student union on campus.

Coffee and registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the workshop runs from 8:45 to 4:45 p.m. Early-bird registration (prior to Sept. 1) will be $75. Registration after Sept. 1 or on the day of the workshop will be $85.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the departments of Behavioral Sciences and Continuing Education. This workshop for mental-health professionals is being provided not only to meet the continuing education needs of the professionals in Oklahoma and Texas, but also as a fundraiser for student scholarships.

The workshop provides an opportunity for interaction with Southeastern's faculty, staff, and students. Proceeds from the workshop are applied directly to the scholarship fund of the Behavioral Sciences Department.

An outstanding group of speakers includes Southeastern faculty members Dr. Reba J. Criswell, Dr. Charla R. Hall, Dr. Deana Williams, and Dr. Hallie Stephens.

Criswell (LPC, NCC, Registered Play Therapist (RPT), is an assistant professor and coordinator of the School Counseling Program. Her presentation topic is "Counseling Children with Asperger's Syndrome: Why Child-Centered Play Therapy Works!"

Hall, licensed psychologist and chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences, will present a program titled "The Basics of Positive Psychology."

Williams, of the Behavioral Sciences department, will present "Career Counseling Across the Life Span: An Intervention."

Stephens, assistant professor and Criminal Justice Program coordinator, will deliver a program titled "Adolescent Drug Use: Old Concerns and New Trends."

Along with the speakers, an exhibit will be provided at the workshop. Participants and community members are encouraged to request a booth to highlight the various organizations and agencies related to school and community counseling services available in southeastern Oklahoma and north Texas. There is no charge for the exhibit.
