DURANT, Okla. -- The Michael Metheny Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting the Southeastern Oklahoma State University golf team has been scheduled for Friday, Oct. 31, at Chickasaw Pointe Golf Resort.

Michael, the son of Pat and Southeastern baseball coach Mike Metheny, was only 22 at the time of his death following an automobile accident near Madill in July of 1994. He graduated from Durant High School in 1990 and was a senior at Southeastern. He would have earned his degree in criminal justice in December.

He had undergone more than 20 major surgeries and had received a kidney from his mother. Overcoming most of his medical limitations, Michael lived to compete and found his niche on the golf course.

He was a member of the Southeastern golf team and a well-known figure around Southeastern sports as he followed his dad's baseball team at home and on the road.

The tournament is a 5-person scramble format and entry fee is $100 per player. The entry fee includes green fee, cart, coffee and donuts, and lunch.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 9 a.m.

Mulligans will be available at $10 each with a limit of two. First tee sponsorships are $50 each.

There will be a drawing for a Southeastern Ping Golf Bag with tickets priced at $5 each or three for $10.

Proceeds go to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University men’s golf team.

To register, call Grady Hartman at 580-745-2470 or e-mail ghartman@SE.edu. Make checks payable and mail to the Southeastern Foundation, Inc., 1405 N. 4th Avenue, PMB 4187, Durant, OK, 74701-0609.
