DURANT, Okla. -- Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Sharon Morrison, Library Director, and Susan Webb, Collection Development Librarian, participated in the Oklahoma Library Association (OLA) Retreat June 10-11.
The meeting was held at the University of Oklahoma's Biological Station at Lake Texoma.
Morrison and Webb, along with 50 other librarians representing academic, school, public, and special libraries, met to discuss the OLA's Long Range Plan and to implement strategies which would address the stated goals and objectives for 2008-09.
Morrison said, "Strengthening library services is one of those stated goals. Effective communication practices among librarians and libraries were the primary focus for one session. Options discussed were implementing a wiki for disseminating information to the association committees and Vyew, a virtual meeting service with voice and video technology. Meebo, a reference on-line chat, and other communication tools were discussed for reaching students and patrons to electronically provide efficient reference services."
Morrison serves as chairperson of the Continuing Education Committee and sits on the OLA Program Committee. Webb serves on the Intellectual Freedom, Scholarship and Sites Committee.
