Presidential Partners Event Kicks Off 2009 Southeastern Centennial Celebration

DURANT, Okla. ­ The kickoff of Southeastern Oklahoma State University's 2009 Centennial celebration was held Friday night with the Presidential Partners Gala. The event included special announcements by Southeastern president Michael D. Turner, and entertainment provided by the Emerald City band.

Presidential Partners contribute $1,000 annually to the University and participate in a number of activities and events which benefit Southeastern. Three students ­ Chris Glenn, Kimber Bosse, and Kat Shadron ­ received Presidential Partners scholarships Friday night.

President Turner announced that as part of the centennial celebration, several landmark buildings on campus will be recognized with historical markers. The first building to receive such recognition will be the Morrison Building. A ceremony dedicating the marker is scheduled for Saturday, October 25 (during homecoming), at 9 a.m. on the Morrison Front Lawn. Throughout 2008 and 2009, other locations will receive similar designations.

Among other Centennial activities scheduled are special lectureships, "100 Hours of Student Programs," a June weekend of student activities, and a compilation of alumni oral and narrative histories. In addition, the University will have a Centennial Calendar available for purchase at Homecoming 2008, and a Centennial history book, which will be available late next year.

The Southeastern Centennial Steering Committee is continuing to collect artifacts and memorabilia to display during the Centennial celebration.

Examples include early letter jackets, postcards, beanies, athletic/band uniforms, home movies, early yearbooks and class rings/pins, copies of early diplomas/certificates/scrapbooks/event programs, books written by alumni/faculty, early medals/trophies, and cheerleading megaphones/uniforms.
