SOSU Honors Program Welcomes 47 Incoming Freshmen

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University has 47 incoming freshmen in the Honors Program for the 2008-09 school year.
The students are from Oklahoma (44), Arkansas (1), and Texas (2). Scholarships awarded to the group are Academic Scholars by Nomination, Presidential Honors, Regional University, Parsons, and Out-of-State.
Dr. Lisa Coleman is the Director of the Southeastern Honors Program. The Honors Program, built on the foundation of the Parsons Scholars Program, has a long tradition that goes back to 1978 when David L. Parsons, a 1928 Southeastern alumnus, endowed the Parsons Scholars scholarships.
Eligibility requirements include an ACT composite score of 25 or SAT of 1130 or higher from a national test date; letter of recommendation from a high school faculty member or administrator; typed letter of candidacy from the student; official 7-semester high school transcript; and a completed application for admission to Southeastern.
Today, the Southeastern Honors Program is committed to the ongoing growth and development of a culturally diverse and academically talented group of Honors students. With a focus on educational excellence, as well as cultural and technological literacy, the program challenges high-caliber students with special talents and outstanding academic abilities to develop local and global awareness and to achieve their full potential.
