Centennial events include Cardinal Key induction, carillon concert

Press Release Date: 03-24-2009

DURANT, Okla. -- Southeastern Oklahoma State University's chapter of the Cardinal Key National Honor Society will present an induction ceremony from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union forum as part of the University Centennial's "100 Hours of Celebration."

April Lehrling, Director of Student Health Services, said, "We are proud to be one of the oldest continuous organizations on campus and would love to have others share in our tradition.

"Cardinal Key was founded in the 1920s and our women are known for their scholarship and leadership on campus. The induction is open to the public and we would enjoy seeing some of our alumni as we begin planning for our Centennial celebration in the fall. "

For more information, contact Lehrling at 580-745-2867 or alehrling@SE.edu.

The Carillon concert is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. Friday and will feature a variety of music by the campus Carillon.

The concert will include school songs (Alma Mater), old favorites, and hymns, which played a big role with the original Carillon, along with patriotic songs.

Dr. Mary Ann Craige, Professor in the Music Department, said, "There are 1,000 songs programmed into the system and we should have just about everybody's favorites."

Campus visitors are asked to sit on the lawn in front of Morrison Hall. They should bring lawn chairs or blankets, along with snacks or picnic baskets, and enjoy the hour-long concert.
