January 06, 2009

DURANT, Okla. -- Jana Jae, known as the "First Lady of Country Fiddle," will perform at the 2009 Southeastern Oklahoma State University Arts Gala. The event is scheduled for Friday, March 6, in the Visual & Performing Arts Center (1614 N. First Avenue).
This is another special event in a series of special activities as Southeastern celebrates its centennial in 2009.
Jae's style of music blends country fiddling, western swing, pop and the classics. She was "discovered" by the legendary Buck Owens, who made her the first female member of his Buckaroos band. Jae later went on to be a regular performer on the hit TV show, "Hee Haw." She has appeared in concert with such notables as Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Mel Tillis, Tammy Wynette, and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Jae will be joined by her band, "Hotwire."
The evening begins with dinner at 7 o'clock, followed by the concert at 8 p.m. Tickets are $100 with proceeds going to student scholarships. Cindy Kirkpatrick is chair of the Arts Gala Committee.
