DURANT, Okla. -- Southeastern Oklahoma State University will host the annual Honors Day from 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Saturday on the Durant campus.
Honors Day activities will be followed by lunch in the cafeteria and tours of the campus and residence halls.
This is the once-a-year event when Southeastern invites qualified high school seniors who wish to be considered for membership in the prestigious Southeastern Honors Program. Membership also allows eligibility to receive a variety of scholarships, which may be renewed for four years, provided the students meet continuing requirements.
The Southeastern Honors Program is built on the foundation of the Parsons Scholarship Program, a long and honorable tradition that goes back to 1979, when David. L. Parsons, a 1928 Southeastern alumnus, endowed the Parsons Scholars scholarships.
Dr. Lisa L. Coleman, Director of the Southeastern Honors Program, said, "Honors Day is one of the greatest days of the year for our Program. Not only do we get to welcome and visit with students who will become future Honors Program members, we also have an opportunity to welcome back Honors Program alums who return year after year to help us with this process. The participation of the faculty, staff, and administration on this day is a testimony to Southeastern's commitment to excellence in education."
Approximately 60 high school seniors are expected to be on campus Saturday, along with perhaps 70 parents and family members. More than 50 faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni, plus 50 current honors students, will be on hand to greet and interview these students. The potential honors students will also write an essay as part of the day's events.
