Southeastern librarians have chapter published in book
Press Release Date: 09-03-2009
DURANT, Okla. – Two Southeastern Oklahoma State University librarians have just had a chapter published in the book, "Teaching Gen M: A Handbook for Librarians and Educators."
Sharon Morrison, Director of SE's Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library, and Susan Webb, Circulation, Cataloging and Collection Development, are the authors of the chapter, "Teaching Gen M Through Cooperative Learning." The chapter focuses on the impact of peer instruction on learner outcomes regarding information literacy in the library.
Research indicates students participating in peer instruction score better than students receiving traditional (lecture, demonstration, hands-on) approaches to the material.
The students involved in the research were enrolled in the Orientation 1002-College Success course.
Morrison said, "With the explosion of readily available information, students need to develop the skill sets necessary to access and evaluate data. The library will continue to provide information-literacy instruction so students can be successful in today's information society."
