Library website receives recognition

Press Release Date: 11-10-2009

DURANT, Okla. Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library has been honored with the Website of the Month for October by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).

The citation noted that "Southeastern Oklahoma State University provides its users with an amazing library website accessible directly from the Southeastern home page. The Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library, with a prominent location not only on the Southeastern website, but also on the campus, is a portal to knowledge for students. The space allocation for the array of information is compact without being confusing, yet lean without being sparse. Sharon Morrison, Library Director, and her staff should be commended on creating and supporting a useful and appealing library website."

Kathryn Plunkett, Digital Information Literacy Librarian, said, "The new Southeastern Library website was very much a collaborative effort. I acted as coordinator and creative director, but all of the Southeastern librarians and the library staff offered invaluable feedback throughout the process. Another essential partner in the website's creation was Cody Wood, who created the homepage using a theme template from the excellent University of Rochester Library homepage, which he adapted to fit our University's needs and requests."

"I was also fortunate to be able to consult briefly with Drs. Ming-Shan Su and Lie Qian from Southeastern's Department of Chemistry, Computer and Physical Sciences. They were both very encouraging and Dr. Qian even recruited several students to give us feedback and excellent practical advice by conducting a usability test on the website. The library website continues to evolve and improve."
