Southeastern music professor earns national award

DURANT, Okla. -- Dr. Robert McFadden, professor of music at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, will be presented a national award at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) conference in Atlanta this weekend.

McFadden was nominated by members of the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association (OMTA) board "because he has made an impact on the music profession through OMTA and MTNA membership and service, has had an exemplary career that has shaped and inspired others, and is held in high esteem by peers."

McFadden's nomination as Oklahoma's 2009 MTNA Foundation Fellow was supported by contributions totaling at least $1,000 from OMTA members. He will be the eighth MTNA Foundation Fellow from Oklahoma.

He has served OMTA in a number of state-level offices, including Vice President for Local Associations and Student Chapters, Vice President for Membership and Certification, and President Elect. He served as president in 2006-08.

In addition, he has written a column continuously since 2002 in the Oklahoma Music Teacher. He currently serves OMTA as its Immediate Past President, a member of the Executive Committee, and Chair of the Ethics Committee.

McFadden holds the BM, MM, and DMA degrees from Wichita State University, University of Michigan, and the University of Kansas. He has lectured, adjudicated, and appeared in solo recitals, duo piano recitals, and as a collaborative musician throughout the United States and abroad, notably Hong Kong, the UK, and Mexico.

He also serves as church pianist and organist in Denison, Texas.
