Kris Simpson named Talent Search Director
DURANT, Okla. -- Ms. Kris Simpson is the new Talent Search Director at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Talent Search is a federally-funded TRiO program.
She began her career at Southeastern in 1995 and has 14 years of experience in three TRIO programs. In 1998, she joined the Talent Search staff as a Guidance Specialist. She says she found her passion for TRiO programs after she began working on the SE campus in June of 1995 with the Upward Bound Math/Science program as a secretary.
After completing her degree in sociology, Simpson was hired as a Guidance Specialist with the Educational Opportunity Center, where she worked with adults who wanted to enter postsecondary education in Bryan and Atoka Counties. In 1998, Simpson transferred to the Talent Search program, working with students living in Choctaw County.
Simpson holds a master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Southeastern, and received her Licensed Professional Counseling certification, as well as her National Board Certification credentials.
"I am excited about continuing my work with the Talent Search program," Simpson said. "I welcome the challenges of providing services to meet the educational needs of our students as they prepare to enter the postsecondary world upon high school graduation."
Some 800 low-income, first generation students are served annually by the program.
