Southeastern TRiO representative named co-chair of institute

Teriki Hicks named co-chair of the TRiO Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP) Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) for 2010.
DURANT, Okla. – Teriki Hicks of Southeastern Oklahoma State University has been named co-chair of the TRiO Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP) Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) for 2010.
Hicks is co-chair of the Oklahoma Division of Student Assistance (ODSA) ELI and served as Public Relations Coordinator for the ODSA Administrative Board in 2003-05.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication at Southeastern and her master’s in Human Resource Development from Indiana State University.
Hicks was appointed as co-chair by SWASAP president Barry Lofton, who is TRiO Director at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a 2009 graduate of the SWASAP Emerging Leaders Institute.
The purpose of ELI is to identify, train and mentor SWASAP members to participate in the leadership and responsibility roles of the association at the state, regional and national levels. SWASAP was formed in 1972 and is a regional association of TRiO professionals in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
TRiO programs have been a part of Southeastern since 1966 and include the Educational Opportunity Center, Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services, Upward Bound, and Upward Bound Math/Science programs.
Hicks has served with the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) since 2003 and was appointed director in 2008. She is a member of the Bryan County Community Services Council and president-elect of the Southeastern Staff Association.
