Press Release Date: 04-01-2010

DURANT, Okla. – The Oklahoma Academy is sponsoring six Oklahoma Gubernatorial Forums around the state this year. One such forum will be held on May 6 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in Montgomery Auditorium in Morrison Hall.

According to the Academy, the following candidates have been invited to participate: (Democrats) Lt. Gov. Jari Askins and Atty. Gen. Drew Edmondson and (Republicans) State Sen. Randy Brogdon and U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin.

The public is invited to attend.

"The Oklahoma Academy is very excited to be able to offer the citizens of Oklahoma an opportunity to hear from the gubernatorial candidates," said Academy member Amy Ford of Durant. "With Oklahoma facing so many challenging issues, it is especially vital that everyone be given the chance to plug into the process and having the candidates at Southeastern will provide them with just such an opportunity."

The Oklahoma Primary election will be held July 27, while the general election is set for Nov. 2.

"We are pleased that the Oklahoma Academy has selected the University as a site for a gubernatorial forum," said Southeastern president Larry Minks. "It should be a very informative and educational evening for not only our students and campus community, but for the Durant community as well. We look forward to having a great crowd and the Academy is to be commended for their efforts in educating voters across the state."
