Great Plains art show under way at Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in partnership with the Red River Arts Council, presents the Centre Art Gallery's 6th-annual /Great Plains juried art show April 1-23 in the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC).
As part of the Visual Arts Exhibition Series, the show is also supported by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The regional art exhibition is open to all artists.
Barbara Elam, Professor Emeritus from Rockford (Ill.) College, is the juror for the show. Since 2005, she has established herself as a major figure on the Texoma art scene. She is an internationally recognized print-maker and owns an art gallery and print studio in Denison, Texas.
An Awards Presentation will be held at 6 p.m. on April 8 when the winners of awards totaling $1,400 will be announced.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the VPAC. There is no admission charge for the exhibit. For further information, call 580-745-3292.
Southeastern's Centre Gallery is located inside the VPAC. SE's Dr. Gleny Beach is the Director of SE's Art Department and president of the Red River Arts Council.
"This show has grown in its scope and represents a wide range of media and styles," Beach said. "We are pleased to be able to work with the Red River Arts Council, the lead sponsor for this show. Fifty artists from a number of cities in our region entered more than 130 works, with more than 60 juried into the show, filling the gallery to capacity.
"Their art work represents a wide variety of media and subject matter. Our juror was very impressed with the professional quality of the work. I believe the public will enjoy the show very much. If anyone is interested in purchasing art work for their home or office, this would be a wonderful opportunity to obtain high-quality, original art."
