Southeastern Homecoming Celebration scheduled for Oct. 8-9

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University is gearing up for one of its biggest homecoming celebrations ever on Oct. 8-9.

The celebration starts with a (Whang) Bang early Friday morning. The 24th-annual Whang Bang Alumni Golf Tournament opens two days of activities with the Savage Storm gridders facing Southwestern’s Bulldogs to wrap it up Saturday afternoon.

Registration for the Whang Bang will open at 8 a.m. Friday at Silverado Golf Course. A shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m. Registration fee is $75 and includes green fee, cart, food, beverages and contests for closest-to-the-pin, longest drive and hole-in-one.

A Fun Package ($25) has been added this year with the Savage Storm Fun Run (card game on the course), mulligan drawing and buy-a-drive.

The Alumni Awards Banquet, 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC), will honor the Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Former Faculty.

Distinguished Alumni for 2010 are Mr. Jerry Buchanan, Mr. Keith Alan Russell and Dr. Dan Tuckness. Former Faculty award recipients are Dr. Merle McElroy-Dunlap, Dr. C.W. Mangrum and Dr. James Clark Milligan (posthumously).

Saturday’s activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Former Athletes’ Breakfast in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. The parade will begin at 12th Avenue and West Main Street, proceed through downtown Durant and finish at the intersection of N. 1st Avenue and Beech Streets.

A number of reunions will be held throughout both days.

Legacy Day is free to high school juniors and seniors whose parents or grandparents are alumni of Southeastern. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. on the front lawn of Morrison Hall. There will be lunch in Alumni Alley, plus tours of the campus and residence halls.

The Alumni Tailgate party starts at 11 a.m. in Alumni Alley, located across from Paul Laird Field on the south side of University Boulevard.

The pre-game ceremony starts at 2 p.m. at Paul Laird Field and will recognize all Distinguished Alumni.

Southeastern will host Southwestern in the Homecoming football game that kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on Paul Laird Field.
