SE's Dell McLain receives Excellence In Teaching Award

DURANT, Okla. – Professor Dell McLain, Chair of the Department of Art, Communication & Theatre at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, is a recipient of the 2010 Oklahoma Higher Education Conference Excellence in Teaching Award.
McLain joined other faculty members from across the state at the awards luncheon recently at the Conference at Northeastern State University.
"Dell is very deserving of this recognition," said Southeastern president Larry Minks. "His enthusiasm, coupled with his innovative teaching methods, have benefited many students over the years. He is indeed an outstanding representative of the University."
A graduate of Southeastern and the University of New Orleans, McLain joined the SE faculty in 1998. Previous teaching positions include Northeastern State University and Austin College.
He is a recipient of the Oklahoma College Theatre Teacher of the Year Award and has been inducted into Who's Who Among American Teachers on three occasions. A member of Actor's Equity Association and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, McLain's professional credits include acting/directing positions with the Louisiana Shakespeare Festival, Toulouse Cabaret, University of Oklahoma's Summer Stage, Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival, Portland Center Stage and the Dallas Theatre Center.
He has been a recent Oklahoma Chair of the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival, and was awarded the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Bronze Medallion in 2005 for service to that organization. He was also honored with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts National Fellowship in Directing.
In addition to his chair and teaching (Theatre) duties, McLain is also the Associate Artistic Chair of the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival.
The NSU Center for Teaching and Learning sponsors this annual conference that emphasizes the use of innovative teaching strategies to support higher education learning. Colleges and universities throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding region participate in this event that encourages establishing a network of colleagues who are interested in expanding their knowledge of innovative teaching strategies.
