Southeastern police officers attend special training

DURANT, Okla. – Two representatives from the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Campus Police recently attended training in "Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings."
Campus Police Assistant Director-Capt. Stacy Ballew and Assistant Director of Campus Safety Steve Harman completed the 32- hour technical operations course Aug. 9-13 at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. The training was administered by the New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology and approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The course prepares emergency responders to react effectively, work cooperatively, and apply countermeasures in any incident involving explosives. The course included classroom presentations designed to familiarize participants with commercial and military explosives, improvised explosive devices, and appropriate response procedures.
The course is a major initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice Programs and the National Domestic Preparedness Office.
Funding for the Southeastern officers’ participation was provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
