Evert Tigner Shakespearean Collection will be presented to Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – The Evert Tigner Shakespearean Collection will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Friday in a specially created room on the first floor of the Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library on the Southeastern Oklahoma State University campus.

The art collection is comprised of numerous pieces of Shakespeare items, including porcelain figures, china plates, portraits, photographs, and prints. Also included is an inventory list of the known history of each item.

Tigner, a 1953 graduate of Southeastern and the recipient of the 2002 Distinguished Alumnus award, created the Evert F. Tigner Endowed Scholarship in January 2003 with a planned estate gift of $50,000. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in English.

He earned his master’s of arts from Pepperdine University and did extensive study and research at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Tigner grew up on a family farm near Albany. He taught English and social studies for 25 years near Los Angeles. For the past 20 years, he has devoted his time to the study, collection and sales of antiques and artworks and is recognized as a well-known dealer and authority on both subjects.

The public is invited to attend Friday’s dedication ceremony.
