DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Oklahoma Theta chapter of Alpha Chi national honor society recently inducted 57 students into lifetime membership.

Dr. Brett Elliott, Professor of Mathematics, delivered the introduction. Participating in the 29th annual induction ceremony were chapter sponsors Elliott; Dr. Charla Hall, Professor and Chair of Behavioral Sciences; Dr. Jennifer Hicks, Professor of Behavioral Sciences; Dr. L. David Norris, History Professor Emeritus; Heather Hartline, President-elect of the Oklahoma Theta Chapter of Alpha Chi; and Southeastern president Larry Minks, who delivered remarks.

Alpha Chi, a national college scholarship honor society, was founded in 1922 and has more than 400,000 members from more than 300 college and university chapters in 45 states and Puerto Rico. The society provides tens of thousands of dollars annually in scholarships and fellowships for members and alumni.

Members of Alpha Chi, identified and elected by the faculties of their schools as ranking in the top 10 percent of juniors and seniors, represent the best undergraduate scholarship in all academic fields at their institutions.

Alpha Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), a group of 67 societies meeting rigorous standards regarding student membership and governance. Alpha Chi is distinctive in its commitment to involving undergraduate members in the full range of operations of the society. Involvement begins at the local chapter level, where students fill all offices, and continues to the regional and national levels, where students are elected to sit on governing boards. In addition, Alpha Chi is one of two major ACHS members based on the scholarly achievement of juniors and seniors from all fields, the other being Phi Kappa Phi.
