Press Release Date: 9-30-2011
DURANT, Okla. – Funding has been renewed for the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) program at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The EOC at Southeastern has been serving low-income and first-generation college students since 1991. Some 11 counties in southern Oklahoma and north Texas are served by the program.
The EOC provides counseling and information on college admissions to qualified adults who want to either enter or continue a program of postsecondary education.
The program also provides services to improve the financial and economic literacy of participants. An important objective of the program is to counsel participants on financial aid options, including basic financial planning skills, and to assist in the application process.
The goal of the EOC is to increase the number of adult participants who enroll in postsecondary institutions.
