SE chemistry students attend national meeting

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University was well represented at the Spring 2011 National American Chemical Society (ACS) meeting in Anaheim, Calif.
The event was attended by more than 14,000 chemistry professionals and students from across the country.
A "Successful Chapters" poster was presented by members of the ACS Student Members Chapter of Southeastern. The poster, "Southeastern Oklahoma State University ACS Student Chapter: Chemistry from the Blue and Gold," described the activities during the past year.
Five students, including chapter president Rebekah Ritchie, Tishomingo senior; vice president Nick Wade, Sherman, Texas, junior; Joel Teko, Gabon, Africa, senior; Stefan Jones, Madill senior; and Crystal Shupert, Calera senior; along with SE alum Allen Baughman, Clayton (now a part-time research technician on campus); chapter mentor Dr. Nancy Paiva and Dr. Teresa Golden, made the trip.
In addition to presenting research posters, attending technical talks, speaking with graduate-school representatives, viewing chemistry-related exhibits from vendors and enjoying various social events, the group from Southeastern also attended certain events related to the SE chapter.
At the awards ceremony, held in the Disneyland Hotel convention wing, Southeastern received a plaque to commemorate the honorable-mention award for last year's chapter activities.
