Press Release Date: 10-19-2011
DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Musical Arts Series will present the Steger International Artist Series featuring Nuovo Quartetto Pianistico Italiano at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.
The group will provide a master class for area pianists at 1:30 the next day, also in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. Members of the Nuovo Quartetto Pianistico Italiano are Maurizio Barboro, Paolo Fiamingo, Franco Giacosa and Giuseppe Giusta.
The group has performed in prestigious venues around the world, both individually and as a quartet, along with making numerous recordings.
Both events are free and open to the public.
The program is funded by an endowment established in 1997 by Ruth and Virge Steger of Durant in recognition of Mrs. Steger’s long and distinguished service as Professor of Piano at Southeastern.
This endowment has created the Steger Institutes, consisting of the Steger International Artist Series and the Steger Cultural Exchange Institute. Use of the Steinway concert grand pianos is made possible by a gift from Mrs. Marilyn Comer.
The Quartetto presents a wide range of music from “musique de salon” to spectacular transcriptions of symphonic works. These performances include literature re-discovered in important European libraries and antique book shops, transcriptions of opera and contemporary music, including music written specifically for the quartet of eight hands at two pianos.
The considerable dynamic and rhythmical potential which distinguishes this group has inspired contemporary composers in the creation of their themes
