Press Release Date: 10-25-2011
DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern Symphonic Winds – Southeastern Oklahoma State University's premier instrumental ensemble – continues its 2011-2012 concert season with a program entitled "Shortcut Home: Travels Around the World" on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Southeastern Ballroom.
The program – which features music that highlights places and cultures from around the globe – includes Dana Wilson's Shortcut Home, Samuel R. Hazo's Sòlas Ané, Jan Van der Roost's Suite Provençale, Michael Colgrass' Bali, Percy Aldridge Grainger's Colonial Song and Dan Welcher's Zion. Joining the group for the performance will be a special guest conductor, Dr. Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant, who is a native of Austria and teaches and conducts the top wind and percussion ensembles at Duke University.
"Dr. Mösenbichler-Bryant is a great friend and an outstanding faculty colleague at an outstanding university,"" said Southeastern Director of Bands Dr. Jacob Wallace. "She is a phenomenal conductor and brings passion and energy to the podium that our students and audience will really enjoy."
Dr. Mösenbichler-Bryant will be conducting Van der Roost's Suite Provençale.
In preparation for the ensemble's Honor Band performance at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Winter Conference in Tulsa, the group is performing a preview of one of their works for that concert.
"Dan Welcher's Zion is a virtuosic tour-de-force. It's the most difficult piece that I've ever asked the group to perform, and they're doing an amazing job of putting it together. The piece itself is so tremendously exciting that we thought it would be great to perform it here on campus as well as up in Tulsa," said Dr. Wallace.
