Freshmen recognized for success

Press Release Date: 2-8-2011

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s first-year students were recently recognized by the Office of Freshman Programs.

The 11th- annual First-Semester Success Reception was held in the Ballroom for fall 2011 freshmen who completed at least 12 hours with a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

The top one-third of the class, 179 students, met this criteria.

Tim Boatmun, Associate Dean of Academic Services, said the goal is to recognize and celebrate the first-semester success of Southeastern students. In addition to the students, families, friends, and University faculty and staff also attended.

Student Government Association president Matt Sitton congratulated the students on behalf of the student body and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Instruction Bryon Clark spoke on behalf of the faculty and administration. Boatmun served as host of the event.

"The first semester of college is one of the most difficult transitions in our lives," Boatmun said. "Some students are leaving home for the first time while adjusting to the demands of higher education.

"Many are adult students dreaming of making their lives better through education. These students have managed that transition extremely well and are truly worthy of the recognition given them by the University."
