Homecoming set for September 27-29

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University will celebrate Homecoming 2012 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28-29.

This year’s theme is “Faithful to the Gold and Blue” and the celebration is intended to offer something for all current student and old grads.

Following are some of the many events scheduled:

  • Thursday, September 27 Reception/Grand Opening of the Albert H. Brigance Center for Curriculum and Assessment 2-4 p.m. Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library
  • Southeastern’s “Night at the Museum” 5:30-7:30 p.m. Three Valley Museum 401 W. Main Street Everyone is invited for hors d’oeuvres, music and good company, surrounded by Southeastern and Durant memories. The Texoma Arts Council will present special exhibits and artists will be available to discuss their work.
  • Friday, September 28 Whang Bang Alumni Golf Tournament 8 a.m. Silverado Golf Course The 26th-annual Whang Bang Alumni Golf Tournament is scheduled for Silverado Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. The Whang Bang has started a new, highly popular tradition that has legends from Southeastern’s storied athletics history serving as honorary starters. This year’s legends will be 1964 Olympic Basketball Gold Medalist Jerry Shipp and retired basketball coach Wayne Cobb.
  • Distinguished Awards Banquet 5:30 p.m. Visual and Performing Arts Center The banquet features introduction of the 2012 Distinguished Alumni, Distinguished Former Faculty, Heritage and Benefactor award recipients.

  • True Blue Rally 8 p.m. Amphitheater
  • Saturday, September 29 Former Athletes’ Breakfast 8:30 a.m. Bloomer Sullivan Arena Athletes and coaches from the past, athletes and coaches of the present, excellent food and time for stories and photos.
  • Homecoming Parade 10 a.m. Main Street, Downtown Durant
  • Alumni Tailgate Party 11 a.m. Alumni Alley Across from Paul Laird Field
  • Southeastern Campus Tours 11:30 a.m. Leave from entrance to Paul Laird Field Explore the Southeastern campus during this 1-hour guided tour. Great for students and families considering Southeastern. Includes tours of the campus, residence halls and a lunch ticket. Special alumni tours will also be offered.
  • Southeastern Marching Band Enters 1:45 p.m. Paul Laird Field
  • Pre-Game Ceremony 1:50 p.m. Paul Laird Field Introduction of Distinguished Alumni
