Southeastern Homecoming is Oct. 14-15

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Homecoming 2011 is almost here (October 14-15), but you still have time to take part in the festivities.

There is still time to make plans for attendance as the football team meets Henderson State (Arkansas) University to climax the two-day festivities.

Southeastern athletics is competing this year in NCAA Division II’s newest entry, the Great American Conference. Henderson State was the preseason favorite to win the first championship.

The celebration will include something for everyone with early birds attending the Southeastern “Night at the Museum” beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Three Valley Museum, 401 West Main Street.

The event features the Southeastern experience from the 1930s and 1940s with video, photos and lots of conversation. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Friday, October 14

Friday’s activities will tee off with the 25th annual Whang Bang Alumni Golf Tournament at Silverado Golf Course. Golfers or just fans will certainly want to be present to see and visit with honorary starters from Southeastern’s storied past, including Hall of Famers and others.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Silverado or golfers may enter online at A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m.

The Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Former Faculty Awards Banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Visual and Performing Arts Center.

The Houston Debate Reception is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Massey Building at 200 West Main Street.

A Bonfire/Pep Rally will be held at 8:30 p.m. in the amphitheater.

Friday’s celebration will end with an Alumni Reunion at Sports City Café, 5607 S. Ninth Avenue, at 9 p.m.

Saturday, October 15

The Former Athletes’ Breakfast is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena. Athletes and coaches from the past meet with athletes and coaches from the present to enjoy good food and share stories of their experiences at Southeastern.

The Homecoming Parade begins in downtown Durant at 10 a.m.

Southeastern Campus Tours will be available for students and families who are considering choosing Southeastern. Tours are also available for alumni. The tours will leave at 11 a.m. from the entrance to Paul Laird Field.

The Alumni Tailgate Party begins at 11 a.m. in Tailgate Alley across from Paul Laird Field.

The Southeastern Marching Band will enter the football field at 1:45 p.m. and the pre-game ceremony will feature the introduction of Distinguished Alumni on the field at 1:50 p.m.

Southeastern’s Savage Storm will kick off the Homecoming 2011 football game against Henderson State’s Reddies at 2 p.m.
