Southeastern involved in community projects on MLK Day

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 16. Classes will not be held, but the University will be open as students, faculty and staff participate in community service projects.

Southeastern faculty, staff and student volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the ballroom in Hallie McKinney Hall.

Volunteers will visit Northwest Heights, Washington Irving and Robert E. Lee elementary schools in Durant, along with the Durant Boys and Girls Club, where they will assist with painting, re-tiling the ceiling, light moving and cleaning.

Southeastern will also conduct a Peanut Butter Drive campus-wide to deliver to St. Catherine’s Food Bank. The group will also help with bagging groceries.

Peanut butter donations may be dropped off in Student Life, Student Health and Wellness, the atrium of the student union and in each residence hall. Each student volunteer is encouraged to bring a canned good or peanut butter product to the MLK Jr. Day of Service.

Lunch will be provided for all participants at 1:30 p.m. in the ballroom.
