Press Release Date: 10-28-2011

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s American Chemical Society (ACS) student chapter has been selected to receive an Honorable Mention Award at the 243rd ACS National Meeting March 25, 2012, in San Diego, Calif.

The student members and Dr. Nancy Paiva, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biotechnology and faculty advisor of Southeastern’s ACS chapter, will be recognized for activities conducted during the 2010-11 academic year.

Southeastern’s student chapter was one of 107 to receive this award from more than 330 reports submitted nationally.

Paiva said, “As our reviewers commented, last year the chapter accomplished a lot, especially considering the small size of the Southeastern group compared to much larger schools.

“This year, the chapter is also striving to initiate more community outreach activities with science students in rural schools.”

Southeastern’s student chapter will be listed among the winners in the “Chemical and Engineering News” professional publication and in the November/December issue of “inChemistry” student magazine.
