Southeastern Symphonic Choir seeks additional participants

DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State University Symphonic Choir is looking for additional singers in all sections. The large ensemble includes college students, faculty and staff, and members of the greater Durant community.

This semester, the group is excited to present Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. This scenic cantata from the 20th century featurestexts from the Middle Ages and music that is alternately energetic, sweet, percussive, lyrical, and always engaging. Much of the music is quite familiar from recent commercials and movie soundtracks. A May 1 performance will include the Southeastern Symphonic Winds (Dr. Erin Cooper, conductor) and the SHAREChildren’s Choir (Dr. Jeri Walker, conductor).

The Symphonic Choir rehearses on Monday nights at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts building on theSoutheastern campus. Because Southeastern’s music majors anchor the ensemble, there are strong leaders in every section for volunteers to follow. New singers will get a score, a guide to pronunciation, and links to online resources that will allow anyone to practice at home.
