Southeastern to serve as host site for free medical services on June 2-3

DURANT, Okla. – For the second time in three years, Southeastern Oklahoma State University will serve as a host site for free medical services in conjunction with Remote Area Medical Oklahoma (RAM).

Dates for the event are June 2-3 in both Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium and Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

RAM is a free healthcare weekend for those in need of care they cannot afford. It’s made possible by volunteer medical, dental and vision professionals, general volunteers and sponsors.

The clinic will treat as many patients as possible on a first-come, first-served basis according to the number of volunteers.

Patients may choose dental, vision, physician or women’s care. Dental service includes cleaning, filling and extraction. Vision patents will receive an exam and have a pair of glasses made on-site, if prescribed.

Root canals and dentures are not available because they are too time-consuming for this event.

A limited number of mammograms and pap tests will be offered. General physicians will be able to conduct physicals and a limited number of lab tests, if needed.

Patients will be seen regardless of income or immigration status. Patients will have the opportunity to be screened for Medicaid eligibility, which could help with future healthcare needs. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Registration will be in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium on University and N. First Avenue.

Volunteers will begin providing care at 6 a.m. each day, but a patient number is required. Patient numbers will be available after 3 a.m. in front of Bloomer Sullivan Gym on the corner of University and N. 1st Avenue. After receiving a number, patients cannot leave the area without forfeiting their number.

Some snacks will be provided for diabetics and children, but patients should be prepared to wait several hours for care. Patients should bring a day’s worth of medications, snacks and baby supplies. Water and restrooms will be available.

Volunteers in all areas  are needed. For details and to sign-up online, go to
